Celebrating twenty years following her own path in arts and entertainment, pure creative gold. founder-creator Kaira Akita has a gift for leading personal and cultural stories that go deeper across multiple genres — specifically via central human themes of change, growth, learning, leadership, and liberation.
TV + FILM BACKGROUND
Kaira started her career behind the scenes producing marketing campaigns, events, and editorial programming for Atlanta’s Tony-award winning Alliance Theatre before transitioning out front as one of the first local actresses to breakthrough in the early Atlanta television and film scene. Credits include supporting and guest star roles with Tyler Perry Studios (Why Did I Get Married, The Family That Preys, Meet the Browns, House of Payne); her starring role in the Sundance film turned BET’s first original television series Somebodies; and appearances on Being Mary Jane (BET), Star (FOX), Little Britain USA (HBO), Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime), Everything I Did Wrong in My 20s (Cleo TV), and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings (Netflix).
Her directing projects and works-in-progress have been featured at Women in Film Los Angeles’ Mentor Circle Program, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, Niecy Nash’s Chocolate Chick Inc. production company, Kids at Play, BET, Food Network, Hallmark Channel, and most recently, the 2024 HerArts Film Lab in Paestum, Italy.
THEATRE BACKGROUND
On stage, Kaira cut her teeth starring in a one-year run of Atlanta’s longest running, top-selling theatre comedy, Peachtree Battle, and performed in local Southeast and West Coast productions of Blues for An Alabama Sky, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough, the Paul Robeson Theatre Festival, and Sunday Mourning, a Los Angeles stage play that garnered her a NAACP Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress.
